Vacation.

Today is the first full day of my vacation. Yesterday was meant to be vacation, but I decided to go to work anyway and catch up on some off-desk things so I wasn't too massively behind on Monday.

It is nice to not have to go into work. I like being abke to hang out with Chris and more importantly, hang out with Chris while Iris is at Daycare. (we are paying for it, why not use it) It's almost like not having kids, except there's this nagging feeling like I'm forgetting something. Plus, by four o'clock today I was dying to go pick her up.

Last night we had some crazy wind as a storm was grazing us. I was on the sofa watching the trees wave frantically and waiting for the rain to come or *something* to happen. Then something did. I hear some cracks and I thought that a dead limb was falling off of an elm and then there were more cracks and a large part of the weeping willow on the south side of the house fell over. So, we hopped up, grabbed Iris and stepped back in case the rest of the tree was going to fall in throught the loving room window. Thankfully it didn't. Though, when we were standing in the dining room anticipating tree collapsing, was saw that a HUGE tree by the railroad tracks had fallen over and was laying on the powerlines. I called the utility emergency line and while I was on the phone there were some big POP explosions and I exclaimed "oh shit" while talking to the dispatcher at the police station. They sent some fire men and a fire truck and after some assessing, they left. A while later the utility people came with their bucket truck and made relatively quick work of the tree and we had power back at 9pm. It was sort of a rude awakening to have the power return. We had a lot of candles lit and a great dinner of grilled marinated chicken and a salad. We were talking.. and listening to the weather radio that has batteries. We heckled a right wing radio program we happened upon and were sharing stories when the bright light of the map and the sound of a computer booking up and the TV turned on. Modern times were back.

Here is the big tree with the firemen looking at it. The didn't do anything. I guess since I told the police dispatcher that somethign exploded that they had to make sure it wasn't going to get worse till the utility people could come.

We had a nice lunch with my inlaws over the Father's Day weekend and then a nice party at friends of ours for their baby daughters baptism. We missed the baptism its self because we were stuck in traffic, but had fun at the party. On Father's Day proper the weather was awful and we took Iris to hang out in the basement during a tornado warning. This was the second time in her short life that we have had to do this. Not Cool.

I have been so busy with work lately and so braindead when I get home that I really barely turn on my computer to check my email. I am so happy to have a little time now with my sweetie and my daughter. * ahh. I think we are going to watch 'memoirs of a geisha' tonight. Oh, and eat many pudding pops. MMMMM, pudding pops. My brain is really still too tired to write anything good.. this is just what I've been up to.

*Still alive. Happy. Busy.

Hump day.

Here we are, mid week and over the hump.. so to speak.

I am going in for two hours of off desk time this morning and then back at five for a regular shift. This am I am doing a little training with my new circ person and meeting with the director about the hiring of a new shelver since I am losing one in July. I have gotten all my off desk hours in this week and now just have regular desk time till I begin "the new schedule" on Monday. Should be cool. I will have so much time to get everything done and do some enrichment to become better at my job.

Iris is back to normal this week more or less. Mostly just waking once at around 4-5am and then up for good around 5:30-6:30am. I don't know where she gets this early morning chipper attitude. Certainly not from her Father or I.

I have lupins, foxgloves and sweet wiliam blooming. Wildflower seeds planted, daisies with buds, butterfly bush growing like crazy, oh.. and the garden is very happy as well! I have carrots, cucumbers, onions, three kinds of basil, dill, zuchini sprouted two tomato plants flowering and a couple other things planted that I don't think have germinated yet. I'm so excited to be able to harvest stuff later in the summer! I missed having a garden!

I signed up for WIC this week to get a break on formula for Iris and some things we buy anyway at the grocery store like milk , cheese, beans etc. I have mixed feeling about signing up for somethign like this, but it's only temporary and I know we will still have to borrow money to pay the mortgage and a couple bills at the end of the month. Not much longer now.. I'm sure things will get better soon.

Iris and our friend Mariah's son Owen. Looks a little like flirting... It's started! *eeek.
